Phase 1:

Evaluate the desirability and feasibility of existing academic governance frameworks

Develop an interactive network map detailing recommended changes to the current system of government rules, incentives, programs and initiatives. 

Synthesize a working governance framework for implementing a carbon-neutral economy. 

Disseminate research through peer-reviewed publishing and conference presentations. .

Phase 2: Develop and analyze detailed case studies on responses to global crises

Develop interviewee protocol through reviewing MC3 database on needed government changes.

Collect interview data from both government and civil society actors and analyze new governance arrangements using thematic coding.

Refine governance framework and synthesize two-page research paper for distribution to participants, government, practitioners and civil society leaders.

Phase 3 - Determine needed governance and institutional capacities

Conduct virtual focus groups with government and civil society leaders to test the desirability and feasibility of the proposed framework.

Finalize the new proposed framework following participant learning exchange and integrating suggested revisions. 

Develop an Action Agenda for decision-makers.

Create an interactive map presenting the relationships between changes in governance and potential co-benefits. 

Develop a framework for monitoring progress.

Disseminate knowledge through the research website, blogs, social media (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and virtual online conversations. 

Disseminate the framework, research findings, action agenda and co-benefits map to politicians, officials and civil society leaders.
